Work setting Various locations Responsibilities Tasks • Safely operate tractor-trailers during Canadian winter and adverse weather conditions, including snow, ice, freezing temperatures, heavy rain, high winds, and reduced visibility. • Operate refrigerated tractor-trailer (reefer) units on long-haul routes throughout Canada, transporting temperature-sensitive produce, fresh fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, and other food products. • Pick up and deliver refrigerated and dry food products to customer locations across different provinces. • Perform detailed pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the tractor, refrigerated trailer, tires, brakes, lights, coupling systems, air lines, doors, seals, and other safety equipment. • Inspect and verify the proper operation of the reefer unit before loading, including temperature settings, fuel level, alarms, airflow, and refrigeration controls. • Set and continuously monitor the required trailer temperature according to the type of produce or food product being transported • Maintain the required cold chain throughout transportation and immediately report temperature fluctuations, reefer alarms, equipment failures, or other conditions that could affect product quality. • Conduct regular checks of the reefer temperature refrigeration unit during long-distance trips and maintain required temperature records for pickup and delivery. • Ensure the trailer is clean, dry, odor-free, and suitable for food transportation before accepting a new load to prevent contamination or damage to produce. • Supervise or assist with the proper loading and unloading of produce and dry fruits, ensuring cargo is distributed • Ensure pallets and freight are properly positioned and secured while maintaining adequate airflow inside refrigerated trailers where required for temperature-controlled products. • Inspect and maintain trailer seals and security procedures and document seal numbers where required to maintain the integrity of food shipments. • Maintain accurate electronic logbooks, trip inspection reports, mileage records, fuel records, reefer temperature records, bills of lading, and proof-of-delivery documentation. • Coordinate with dispatchers, shippers, receivers, and customers regarding loading times, delivery appointments, temperature requirements, delays, route changes, and other transportation matters. • Follow scheduled delivery appointments closely because fresh produce and temperature-sensitive freight may have strict receiving and delivery timelines*. • Perform minor emergency roadside adjustments within the driver's training and authorization Credentials Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses • Driver's License (Class 1 or A) Experience and specialization Documentation knowledge Bill of lading Driver logbook Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip) Trip reports Type of trucking and equipment Refrigerated Tractor-trailer Communication systems experience Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment Transportation/travel experience Long-haul Provincial/territorial Additional information Transportation/travel information Valid driver's licence Willing to travel for extended periods Willing to travel overnight Work conditions and physical capabilities Attention to detail Handling heavy loads Large workload Physically demanding Repetitive tasks Weight handling Up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs) Own tools/equipment Steel-toed safety boots Personal suitability Efficient interpersonal skills Excellent oral communication Flexibility Organized Hardworking Benefits Other benefits Learning/training paid by employer How to apply By email dbktransportltd@yahoo.com
